What have we done ?

In recent years some of the activities undertaken by the council have been:

  • The Inter-Town Sports Challenge between Felixstowe and Woodbridge in a dozen or so events as different as bridge, junior cricket, outdoor bowls and road running.
  • The Annual Sports Awards evening with recognition for Senior and Junior Sports Personalities of the Year, Team of the Year, Club Official of the Year and Service to Sport and Progress in Sport.
  • Small annual grants to assist affiliated clubs to provide equipment such as first-aid equipment and rackets.
  • Provision of advice and support for affiliated clubs including fundraising ideas and help with volunteering.
  • Staging an Active Fest to enable newcomers to enjoy free taster sessions in a wide range of sports.
  • Fundraising over £100,000 to provide play equipment, two all-weather basketball areas at Cavendish Park and Walton Recreation ground, an all-weather area at Allenby Park as well as a 10 station fitness trail at Eastwood Ho.
  • Provision of interest free loans to enable clubs to obtain urgently needed equipment.
  • Providing a Felixstowe Library sports notice board for use by affiliated clubs.
  • Liaising with East Suffolk Council about the proposed new Leisure Centre due summer 2025 and about sports hubs for cricket, hockey, rugby and soccer.
